August has been a month of reflecting on progress and building for the future — from completing key projects to breaking new ground, and most importantly, taking time to recognise the hard work and dedication of our growing team.

Project Completion: Barnsley Hospital Education Block

We’re pleased to share the successful completion of the phased refurbishment and new build works at Barnsley Hospital’s Education Block.

This project required close coordination with hospital operations to ensure minimal disruption whilst upgrading critical learning spaces. The refurbishment involved the full modernisation of internal layouts, installation of new M&E systems, and improved accessibility across the site. The new-build section seamlessly integrates with the existing infrastructure, providing additional capacity for training and development of hospital staff and students.

Project Completion – Jessops Maternity Ward, Sheffield

Completion of the fourth and final phase of the refurbishment works at Jessops Maternity Ward, located within the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This 4 phase refurbishment programme was delivered in a live, fully operational hospital environment, requiring meticulous planning, strong stakeholder coordination, and a phased approach to minimise disruption to vital maternity services.

The works spanned across multiple areas within the maternity unit, including:

  • Refurbishment of delivery suites
  • Upgrade of staff and patient welfare facilities
  • Installation of new M&E systems and infrastructure
  • Reconfiguration of internal layouts to improve patient flow and clinical efficiency
  • New toilet and shower facilities
  • Redecoration and modernisation of finishes throughout

Each phase was carefully sequenced to allow maternity care to continue uninterrupted — with out-of-hours working, temporary access solutions, and close collaboration with ward staff playing a critical role in the project’s success.

The complexity of the environment demanded not just technical expertise, but constant communication and shared problem-solving across all parties involved.

We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to:

The RLX site and office teams, whose professionalism and adaptability ensured the smooth delivery of each phase, our design team partners, for their ongoing support and solutions. The NHS Estates & Facilities staff, for their coordination and invaluable input during the planning and delivery phases and importantly, our trusted subcontractor partners, who played a vital role in delivering high-quality workmanship across all trades.

This project truly showcased the value of collaborative working, and we are proud to have delivered a high-quality healthcare environment that supports both clinical excellence and patient comfort.

Team Celebration: Corporate Clay Shoot & Social

At the end of August, we took the opportunity to step away from the building sites and celebrate the incredible efforts of the RLX team — with a corporate clay shoot and social event attended by staff, clients, and close partners.

Held at a scenic countryside location, the day was packed with friendly competition, laughs, and well-earned enjoyment. After the shoot, everyone enjoyed a catered meal and drinks, offering the chance to reflect on the successes of the past year and reconnect outside of the work environment.

The event was a reminder that our strength lies not just in the work we deliver, but in the people who make it happen. A huge thank you to all who attended — we’re already looking forward to the next one!
