Project Overview
- Client: Whiteley Woods OAC
- Location: Sheffield
- Department: Grade II Listed cottage
- Duration: 22 Weeks
- Brief: Refurbishment of Grade II Listed Building
Completion of our latest refurbishment project at Whitley Woods in Sheffield. This project involved the meticulous renovation of a Grade II listed building, showcasing our dedication to preserving historical architecture while enhancing its functionality for modern use.
The project began with the careful demolition of existing finishes and the excavation of existing floor levels. This foundational work was crucial to prepare the building for the subsequent phases of refurbishment.
In keeping with the historical significance of the building, new lime plaster was applied to all external walls.
Additionally, limecrete flooring was installed throughout the ground floor, ensuring both durability and historical accuracy.
The internal layout was reconfigured to improve the building’s usability. This included the redesign of bedrooms and bathrooms to better meet contemporary needs while respecting the building’s heritage. Traditional panelling was added to the internal ground floor walls, preserving the historical ambiance of the interior spaces.
New timber windows, preserved in linseed paint, were installed. These windows not only enhance the building’s aesthetic appeal but also ensure energy efficiency and long-term preservation.
To ensure safety and durability, fire doors were fitted throughout the building along with new fire alarm system and firestopping through party walls.
A new kitchen featuring modern appliances was installed, blending contemporary convenience with the building’s classic charm. Stone flooring was laid across the ground floor, adding to the building’s timeless elegance.
Modular Shower Block:
A pre-fabricated modular shower block with disabled access was successfully delivered and installed. This modern addition meets current accessibility standards, providing essential facilities for all users. To facilitate the delivery of the pre-fabricated shower block, track matting was strategically laid through the grass. This approach minimized environmental impact, ensuring that the natural beauty of Whitley Woods was preserved throughout the process.
The successful completion of this refurbishment project underscores RLX Construction’s expertise in managing complex renovations, particularly within historically significant buildings. Our team’s ability to blend traditional craftsmanship with modern construction techniques ensures that such heritage projects are both preserved and enhanced for future generations.
